For several years, the Ferguson Family of Rutherford, New Jersey–Mark, Geri, and their son Sam–have been on a quest to find a church that would provide more of a spiritual experience while still honoring many of the age-old traditions of Christianity, including Lent and Advent. Geri, who runs the career planning office at Caldwell College and who was raised Catholic, says, “I read a lot about Christianity. I’m fascinated with the history of the church, with spirituality and progressive Christianity.”
Husband Mark, a librarian at the College of St. Elizabeth in Morristown, was raised Baptist. So how did their journey land them here at FCC? Chalk it up to the power of online advertising. “Last fall, I was searching out churches online and came across FCC’s website. I was really impressed, so we decided to come and check things out. Right away, we liked Rev. Ann’s warmth and thought her sermons were great.” Geri hopes to get involved teaching in the church school program. Their son Sam, a fourth-grader and avid sports fan, soccer and basketball player, is already making friends in the church school program.
